Hi - I'm experiencing a bug with WMC7.
At times, when I select another library in the Shared pivot area, and then come back to my main Music Library, WMC7 picks up a new directory in my default library settings -- the directory that reflects where I just was in the Shared library!
So, my default music library is: J:\media\music... but after I dabble in a shared library a few times, when I come back to my main Music Library, it automatically ADDS a new directory to my default music library! So, again, without any prompting from me, WMC7 adds the shared library to my default music library. This is not good. Any ideas? Or is this just a bug report?

Media center uses media player for playback,so it may be adding the folders.
Open windows media player, right clic the top of the window, select tools/options.
On the player tab, deselect add remote media files to library when played.
Click apply/ok.
See if that helps.
Ah. Thanks for the tip. While that was already de-selected, "add local media files to library when played" was selected, and I suspect (hope!) that this was the culprit.
Would you happen to be an expert on "other library" configuration issues I'm having as well?
I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I usually do fairly well at figuring out problems.
If I can't come up with an answer, maybe someone else here can.
What sort of other problems are you having?
I am usually a good problem-solver, too, but this one has me vexed (and I've posted it several times, but with no answers to be found on the forum):
I have 3 Win7 machines on my network, and a Windows Home Server (WHS).
One of my Win7 machines is my dedicated WMC - hooked up to my HDTV and controlled completely via remote control. I'll call this my WMC7 box.
On my two Win7 machines, my WHS (LAN ID: Homeserver) shows up in "other libraries" in WMP as it should: as "Homesever"... and all my content stored in the WHS public shared for music, video, and recorded TV show up as expected. In addition, another "other library" is "User 1 (Homeserver)" shows up in addition. This "User 1 (Homeserver)" entry isn't as good, because it won't bring up metadata/cover-art. I'm not even sure what "User 1" is, and where that is coming from.
However, on my WMC7 machine, the "Homeserver" entry does not exist... only the "User 1 (homeserver)" entry. As a result, when I go to my "shared" pivot in My Music, and select "User 1 (Homeserver)", I can access my music library on my WHS box, but no metadata shows up. So, it's ugly. WHS also has a "TwonkyMedia" server, which also shows up, and metadata does appear with this view of my WHS content. However, Twonky is far slower, and even crashes WMC7 sometimes. So, I really want the real "homserver" entry to show up on my WMC7 box. However, nothing I've done seems to enable this "other library" to show up in WMP, and therefore on WMC's shared pivot.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
First, you may want to check all the machines on the network are on the same workgroup.
Go to start and right click computer.
Click properties.
It should show half way down the page.
If they are not the same, change them to match.
It may work better to map the shared drive on the server to your
media center machine.
That way you media center can treat it as a local drive and you can set it
to monitor the folders you want.
That way it can pull the media directly, instead of through a share.
Map a network drive.

Hi there. Thanks for the ideas. Every PC is on the same workgroup (good idea, though -- I double-checked). Unfortunately, I actually do not want my home server's music library integrated into my default WMC music library. Think of it this way: My "primary library" is my WMC Music Library. My "secondary library" is on my Home Server, where I have a bunch of random downloaded MP3s that I would never want to play back on a "shuffle play back." So, I'm using the shared feature to manage different types of music libraries. Pretty cool, eh?
Too bad my "other library" feature isn't working on the one Win7 machine that I really wish it would.
Have you run updates form windows update on the home server?
Looks like this update addresses the metadata problem as well as others.

It is also supposed to update the connector to client machines.
You may already have this.
Not sure.
Nice try! Seriously, thanks for this. I'm actually on Power Pack 3 with my WHS! I'm not convinced this is a WHS problem because 2 out of 3 Win7 PCs work just fine with WHS. It's my WMC7 box that seems to just not have access to the homeserver via "Other Libraries" in WMP.
